You probably knew that you could get all kinds of human prescription medications at Costco. But did you know that Costco stocks medications for pets, too? Here are 13 of the dozens of prescription meds for pets that you can get at Costco. They are listed in alphabetical order.

Our dog Sadie has seasonal allergies and the only thing that stops the itching for her is Apoquel. The price at Costco was similar to the price we paid at the vet.

Atopica

Atopica for Dogs is designed to treat topical dermatitis in dogs. There is also a version for cats. Costco says it stocks Atopica but it’s not clear if they stock the versions for cats or dogs or both.

Baytril Tablets is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone aka antibiotic that treats certain bacterial infections in dogs and cats.

Clavamox

According to Zoetis, the manufacturer of Clavamox, it is orally administered — and available in both chewable and drop form — to effectively treat skin infections in dogs and cats, periodontal infections in dogs and urinary tract infections in cats.

Fluoxetine

Fluoxetine — brand names include Prozac, Reconcile and Sarafem — is an antidepressant that humans use and also may be prescribed for some pets. However, be careful when using Fluoxetine. According to the American College of Veterinary Pharmacists, the drug can be toxic to dogs and cats if not used properly.

Gabapentin

Our dog Sadie was prescribed Gabapentin after her TPLO surgery, which she has had on both of her hind legs. For her it was used to minimize nerve pain but it is also an anticonvulsant drug.

Heartgard

Heartgard is a monthly, chewable you give your dog to help the prevention of heartworms. Technically, it is called Heartgard PLUS — main ingredients are ivermectin/pyrantel — and it prevents heartworm disease. Plus, it treats and controls five species of intestinal worms. Costco also sells other heartworm prevention meds, including Interceptor Plus, Sentinel, Simparica Trio and Tri-HeartPlus.

Meloxidyl

Meloxidyl is an FDA-approved generic of meloxicam. This product is used to control pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in dogs.

In our house, we jokingly called Rimadyl doggie Advil. We’re not too far off in saying that since Rimadyl is a brand name for the generic veterinary equivalent drug carprofen, and carprofen is an NSAID or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, just like ibuprofen or Advil is.

Trazodone

Trazodone is a tranquilizer for both humans and dogs. Sadie took it regularly after her surgeries, because it made her sleepy and less energetic. Therefore, she rested and could recover. Vets also prescribe it for pets with anxiety.

Zeniquin aka marbofloxacin is used for the treatment of skin and soft-tissue infections in dogs and cats, and certain urinary tract infections in dogs.
