What Time Do Stores Open
After writing my post about stores closed on national holidays, I started getting questions from readers about what time do stores open. I got the sense that people who wanted to shop in the stores closed on holiday wanted to know when they could go the next day.
Or, shoppers simply wanted to know what time their favorite store opens and closes.
Of course, you can always shop online 24/7 365.
Which is why in my list in this article, whenever possible, I’ve included links to the online version of stores, if they exist.
What time do stores open
In addition, there may be instances where the store listed below is normally part of a mall. Therefore, you may discover that the store opens and closes based on mall hours, not the ones I’ve included here.
Finally, since I’m writing this article before the December holidays, I’ve included any special hours for Cyber Monday, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
This includes stores that open early the day after Christmas for those awesome after-Christmas sales.
Then, once we get into the New Year, I’ll update the information to reflect any other upcoming holidays when stores might close early.
So, if you ever find yourself asking, “What time do stores open today?” then hopefully you’ll find the answer below.
What time do Aldi stores open

There are four days of the year when Aldi stores are not open at all. They are:
- New Year’s Day
- Easter
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas
However, during the rest of the year, you can expect Aldi stores to open between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m.
Finally, if you want to shop online with Aldi, you’ll need to sign up for Instacart.
What time do the Dollar Tree stores open
Even though Dollar Tree stores are a nationwide chain, I haven’t found that their store hours are consistent across the brand.
For example, I live within an easy drive to three different Dollar Tree stores. And each location has different opening and closing times.
While they generally open at 8:00 a.m. or 9:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., some of the stores (but not all) are staying open until 10:00 p.m. through the holiday season.
What are Costco hours
What time Costco stores open and close depend on the day of the week and the time of the year.
For example, Monday through Friday, most Costco locations open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 8:30 p.m. On Saturday, Costco is open 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Finally, on Sunday, Costco opens again at 10:00 a.m. and closes at 6:00 p.m.
Costco holiday hours
When you’ll find a change in Costco hours is during the holidays.
One, Costco is completely closed on six holidays during the year.
Two, some Costco locations may open early on Black Friday–usually about an hour earlier than normal.
Three, Costco typically opens and closes early on Christmas Eve, regardless of what day of the week it is. So, expect Costco to open early at 8:30 a.m. and close at 5:00 p.m. on December 24.

Costco Membership Deal via Groupon
The best deal on a Costco Membership right now is through Groupon. When you sign up, you’ll get your one-year membership plus a $40 Costco Digital Shop Card for free.
In case you didn’t know, the Costco Shop Card is the store’s gift card. You can use it in store or online.
This offer is for new Costco memberships only or for former Costco members whose membership expired more than 18 months ago. So, if you’ve moved, there wasn’t a Costco nearby and you let your membership lapse for more than 18 months, you’re good to go to sign up for this deal again!
Also, you can avoid the lines at your Costco location by signing up for this Groupon Costco deal. This was the crowd at the new Costco in Maine near where I live. Yikes!

Other warehouse club memberships
Perhaps you prefer to shop at another warehouse club because it is more convenient to where you live than Costco is. Good news: Both BJs and Sam’s Club have Groupon deals right now for memberships. Plus, both tend to have gas stations where members can get a cheaper price when filling up the gas tank.
What time does Home Depot stores open
On Mondays through Saturdays, most Home Depot locations open at 6:00 a.m. and close at 10:00 p.m. Sunday hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Home Depot stores are all closed on two holidays during the year–Thanksgiving and Christmas.
What time does Kohl’s open
Kohl’s stores have special holiday hours. They are open from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. through the holiday season.
I will have to double check what their regular, non-holiday hours are after December is over.
What are Marshalls holiday hours
It appears that Marshalls is offering extended holiday shopping hours in store through the end of November and into December.
Everything I could find about Marshalls stores says that they open at 8 a.m. and close at 10 p.m.
Of course, it’s possible that your local Marshalls may have slightly different hours.
Also, I would expect the other Marshalls brands (TJMaxx, HomeGoods, Sierra–formerly Sierra Trading Post–and Homesense) to have similar hours.
FYI, many Marshalls are also dog friendly stores.
What time does Nordstrom open
Typically, Nordstrom department stores are in malls. So, the store hours tend to reflect the mall.
Many malls open at 10:00 a.m. and close anywhere between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Monday through Saturday.
Then, Sunday somewhere around 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
However, during the holidays, Nordstrom store hours can vary greatly.
For example, here are the holiday hours for the Nordstrom department store at the Ross Park Mall in Pittsburgh near where I live.

Dec 18: 10am-8pm
Dec 19-23: 9am-9pm
Dec 24: 9am-6pm
Dec 25: Closed
Dec 31: 10am-6pm
Jan 1: 11am-6pm
When does Nordstrom Rack open
The off-price version of Nordstrom, called Nordstrom Rack, is open during common retail hours. So, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the week and on Saturdays and around 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sundays.
Again, Nordstrom Rack holiday hours can vary significantly from regular retail hours.
For example, the Nordstrom Rack store in Pittsburgh has the following holiday hours for 2022:

Nov 26: 10am-9pm
Nov 28-Dec 3: 10am-9pm
Dec 5-10: 10am-9pm
Dec 12-17: 10am-9pm
Dec 18: 11am-7pm
Dec 19-23: 9am-9pm

Dec 25: Closed
Dec 26: 9am-9pm
Dec 27-30: 10am-9pm
Dec 31: 10am-6pm
Jan 1: 12pm-6pm
What time does Sears open
Normally, Sears stores open at 11:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. This is Monday through Saturday. On Sunday, regular store hours are 11:00 a.m. to 4:00.
What are Target hours
On most days, Target opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes at 10:00 p.m. This is seven days a week.
The only variation is with the CVS stores within Target and sometimes Starbucks inside Target. They tend to have shorter hours.
Finally, it doesn’t appear that Target is having any special holiday store hours for Cyber Monday or Christmas Eve.
That’s probably because, at least with Cyber Monday, all the deals will be found on Target.com.
What are Walmart hours
Walmart doesn’t need to have any special holiday hours. Why?
Because it’s open 6:00 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week anyway.
However, on Christmas Eve, Walmart stores will stay open until 8:00 p.m. only.
Then, Walmart is closed on Christmas.
What are Sunday Laws?
Finally, some states still have blue laws aka Sunday laws.
What are blue laws?
These are laws on the books that restrict your ability to shop for alcohol on Sunday.
However, a few remaining Sunday blue laws affect whether stores are open or closed on Sunday.
In one instance a seemingly blue law focuses on holidays when stores must be closed, not the day of the week that they must be closed.
Finally, in many states, Blue laws still dictate when car dealerships can be open on the weekends.
States with Blue laws for general shopping
Right now there are only two states with some sort of Sunday or blue law on the books with regards to non-alcohol and non-automobile shopping on Sundays:
- Maine (Stores bigger than 5,000 square feet may not be open on Thanksgiving, Christmas or Easter)
- New Jersey (Bergen County only)

Final thoughts on what time do stores open
I realize that customer service or online chat for customer service may not be available when stores are closed. So, it’s important to know what time they open.
However, if you decide to shop online and don’t need help, then you never have to worry about what time the stores open. You’ll always beat the crowds by shopping at home.
