Why You Don’t Have to Wait for the Peloton Rower

You neither have to wait for the Peloton rower or hope that one day they’ll make an elliptical. Because with the Peloton app on your phone, tablet or cast to a Smart TV, you can take classes right now.

What do I mean? I mean that with any of the cardio classes that Peloton offers, you can sub in an elliptical or rower for a bike or Tread. 

For instance, my daughter has a Concept 2 Rower that she loves. It’s been a great low-impact cardio machine for her to use when she can’t get to the gym. 

Doing Peloton bootcamps on her rower

For a long time now, she’s been using the app to do Tread and Bike bootcamps. How? During the cardio portion of these bootcamps, she rows. And during the strength training portion of bootcamp, she gets off the rower and down onto the floor.

I use the same hack for doing Tread bootcamps. We have a traditional NordicTrack treadmill in our basement, and I’ve been doing Tread bootcamp classes on it. However, instead of running when the instructors run, I’ll walk. Then, when they call for strength on the floor, I’ve got a mat and weights nearby.

In addition, I can use my regular treadmill to take the hiking bootcamp classes that Peloton recently introduced. There are just a handful of hiking bootcamp classes right now, and instructor Rebecca Kennedy teaches them all.

Just Workout on the App

Basically, Just Workout is similar to the Just Ride feature on the bike or Just Run option on the Tread. You can turn on Just Workout on the app while you do your own workout. 

So you can use it with any piece of equipment or for any activity. That would include a rower or elliptical or treadmill or anything else you have in your home gym. Or at a physical gym you visit to workout.

I plan to use it for my daily walks with dogs, though I do prefer to listen to the Peloton outdoor classes. They really put a pep in my step. 

Either way, with Just Workout you’re guaranteed to get your blue dot on the calendar.

Rowing machines from other companies

Of course, Peloton isn’t the only one that will make a rower. Plenty of other manufacturers out there with highly rated rowers. 

For example, when the daughter I mentioned earlier was in the market for a rower, nearly everyone we talked to recommended the Concept 2 rower. There are a number of benefits to the Concept 2 rower.

One, it breaks down into small pieces. So, you can stash it in your car if you want to take it with you on vacation. Or, you can store it under your bed.

Two, it’s relatively inexpensive for a quality piece of cardio equipment. You can find these rowers on Amazon for about $1,000. Like I said–relatively inexpensive. But, remember, you get what you pay for when it comes to exercise equipment–and frankly everything else in life.

And three, I mentioned Amazon. The fact that you can buy the Concept 2 Rower on Amazon means it will be delivered to your doorstep with free shipping. You won’t have to coordinate with a logistics company like with the Peloton bikes.

And let me reiterate that when I got my Bike Plus, I had no problem with XPO Logistics, as I wrote about in this article. And when I eventually ordered the Peloton Rower, XPO delivered it and it went just fine.

Truth is, you can find all kinds of brands of rowers on Amazon, too, if you don’t want to wait for the one from Peloton. This includes Echelon rowing machine and Cityrow.

Hydrow machine

There is already a smart rower on the market with a touch screen and classes. It is the Hydrow machine. 

I started writing about Hydrow when I realized that Hydrow had its own hotel finder option. In fact, it’s the reason I wrote my post about hotels with Hydrow rowing machines.

Note: many of these are also Peloton hotels.

Recently, I drove to an Ohio Best Buy store. It was the closest place to me that had a Hydrow for me to try out, as you can see below. Afterwards, I wrote this review.

In addition, there is a smaller, less expensive version of the Hydrow rower. It’s called the Hydrow Wave. However, it’s about to go up in price.

Finally, celebrities have invested in Hydrow. This includes Kevin Hart, Lizzo and Justin Timberlake.

Sole treadmills

Since we’re talking about alternatives to Peloton, I wanted to make you aware of the Sole brand of treadmills. From Sole Fitness these treadmills have the same slat conveyor belt that the original Tread Plus had. Specifically, you want to look at the Sole Fitness ST90 treadmill.

We know that Peloton isn’t making or selling the Tread Plus right now. Therefore, if you want to have that slatted belt for more cushioning running, the Sole tread would fit your needs.

I understand that the slat belt, which is reinforced rubber, mimics running outside more than any other kind of treadmill. Also, it’s easier on the joints, I believe.

Sole treadmills available overseas

One of the drawbacks of the Peloton treadmill is that it isn’t available in all overseas locations like the bike is. Not so with the Sole treadmills.

Final thoughts on why you don’t have to wait for the Peloton rower

I hope I’ve offered you some reasonable options for getting a cardio workout done before the new rower comes out. This is important since we have no way of knowing when the Peloton rower will be released in 2022.
