Birthday Freebies for Kids and Teens

After the popularity of my articles on birthday freebies for grownups and birthday discounts, readers asked, “Hey, what about birthday freebies for kids?”

Thanks for the idea.

I’ll admit that because my own children are grown, I’m not in the mindset of thinking about free stuff they can get on their birthday.

However, if you’ve still got kids living at home, then you’ll definitely want to know this information.

Birthday freebies for kids and teens

So, starting with the restaurants in that birthday freebies article, I’ve built out a list of birthday freebies for kids.

Also, I’ve added teens since some of these rewards clubs ask users to be at least 13 years old to join. Some want you to be at least 18 (no fun)!

On the other hand, many of the restaurants that have kids eat free promotions on the regular also usually do something for a child’s birthday.

To be honest, if you sign yourself up for the birthday freebies, then you can sign up your child, too.

If they’re too young to have their own email address, you can always create a “freebies” email in Gmail (separate from your own). That way you can keep track of offers without making your main email address susceptible to spam email.

However, as I learn of additional stores or eateries that do something special (and complimentary) for a child’s birthday, I’ll add them in.

At the same time, if you’re aware of a national chain that has given your son or daughter something for free on their birthday, do let me know.

Now onto the list of restaurants with birthday freebies for your kids.

A&W Restaurants

You have to be at least 13 years old to sign up for A&W Mug Club. Registering is how you get that birthday freebie–a free root beer float on your birthday.

Applebee’s

Rumor has it you’ll get a BOGO coupon by email that you can use on your kid’s birthday. Sign up here for Club Applebees to get that Applebee’s birthday reward.

Baskin-Robbins

You have to be at least 13 or older to sign up for the Baskin-Robbins birthday club. However, parents can join and then add their children’s birthday to the account.

Then, everyone in the birthday club gets a free four-ounce ice cream on their birthday.

Important note about this kids’ birthday freebie: you’ll need to download the Baskin-Robbins app to your phone in order to access the coupon.

Finally, throughout 2023, Baskin-Robbins is offering 31% off ice cream on the 31st of the month. So, that would be these months:

  • January
  • March
  • May
  • July
  • August
  • October
  • December

California Pizza Kitchen Birthday Freebies

Your kids can enjoy free pizza at California Pizza Kitchen on their birthday. It’s not clear, though, if parents need to sign up for CPK Rewards on their behalf to get this freebie.

Chili’s

At Chili’s, kids always eat free when an adult is ordering an entree. However, the adult has to be a member of the My Chili’s Rewards program to get this freebie.

So, if you eat out at Chili’s on your child’s birthday and you’re in the rewards program, well that would qualify as a birthday freebie for your kid, right?

Cold Stone Creamery

You need to be 18 years old to sign up for the Cold Stone Creamery rewards program, which includes a birthday freebie. However, once you do, you can add up to seven family members to it.

Then, when your kid’s birthday rolls around, you’ll see a birthday BOGO added to your rewards account seven days before the big day. After that, you have two weeks from the actual birthday date to redeem it with your child.

Dairy Queen aka DQ

When you sign up for the Blizzard Fan Club, Dairy Queen does ask for your birthday. However, it doesn’t say what you or your child would get for free on their birthday.

Denny’s Birthday Freebies

While kids eat free at Denny’s everyday with an adult who spends at least $6. Also, they can get something free on their birthday, too. Just sign up for Denny’s Rewards.

IHOP

The birthday freebies at IHOP are really for teens. That’s because you have to be at least 13 years old to join the IHOP Rewards club.

So, what will your teen receive on their birthday? A free stack of pancakes.

Jersey Mike’s

If you’re at least 13 years old and have created a My Mike’s account at Jersey Mike’s, then you’ll get a free sub sandwich on your birthday.

Krispy Kreme

Teens get to enjoy the birthday freebie at Krispy Kreme. That’s because you have to be at least 13 to join the rewards club.

Also, you get a free doughnut as soon as you sign up. Then, on your birthday, expect a free donut offer to show up in the Krispy Kreme app, too.

Red Robin

Adults get a free burger on their birthday at Red Robin. And kids, well, their Red Robin freebie is a dessert sundae.

Even better, you don’t have to join any club or sign up for anything to get this birthday freebie.

Rita’s Italian Ice

You have to be at least 13 years old to sign up for Rita’s Birthday Club. So, this is more a birthday freebie for teens.

Here I am with my daughter, Jane, when she was 19. It was the first day of spring, so we went out for Rita’s–even though it was snowing.

Also, I just noticed this fine print on the Rita’s Rewards sign up page:

“If your birthday falls during the winter months, when your nearest Rita’s may be closed for the season, you’ll receive a Half-Birthday message instead! Look for this message about 6 months before your birthday.”

Good to know, since my birthday definitely comes around when Rita’s are all closed for the season. I love the idea of a half birthday treat. If your kid has a winter birthday, they’ll love this, too.
