What Are Nordstrom Exclusive Brands

I do so much of my clothes shopping at Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack that I never stopped to think about the brands that are exclusive to Nordstrom.

However, in researching this article, I took a trip through my own closet.

There, I found at least a dozen items that were Nordstrom private label brands.

They included:

• Caslon
• Halogen
• Nordstrom
• Nordstrom Signature
• Treasure and Bond
• Zella

I also own two other brands that are Nordstrom exclusives.

Or, at least they used to be.

One is 1901, which they don’t seem to stock anymore.

It’s named for the year the first Nordstrom store opened.

The other is Wit and Wisdom.

While they appear to be a separate brand from Nordstrom, they are sold exclusively at Nordstrom.

So, they fit this article’s theme, right?

In addition, in researching this article, I discovered some brands that Nordstrom must be phasing out.

Why? Because there are very few still available for sale.

These include:

Hinge

Leith

Make + Model

Finally, I remember buying both the Faconnable and Classiques Entier brands at Nordstrom stores in the early 2000s.

However, I haven’t seen them since.

Categories of Nordstrom exclusive brands

The store calls these private label brands Nordstrom Made.

You’ll find Nordstrom Made items in these four categories:

• Women
• Men
• Kids
• Home

This also includes juniors, which Nordstrom calls Young Adult.

I’ve found that, depending on the size of the Nordstrom store, you might find young adult clothing on the same floor as women’s.

However, in three-story Nordstrom mall stores, Young Adult is usually on the top floor with kids and home.

Of course, the exception to this rule is the city-located Nordstrom stores.

For example, when I visited the flagship store in New York City last fall, I discovered that this store has five stores above ground and two below–called lower levels.

Ironically, the young adult department was on the top floor–floor 5.

On the other hand, the kids department was on the second lower level.

These department stores are where you’ll find Nordstrom restaurants and cafes.

Brands exclusive to Nordstrom

Below I’ve listed all of the brands I could find that are exclusively sold at Nordstrom.

They’re listed in alphabetical order.

1901

As I mentioned earlier, the 1901 brand is so named for the year that Nordstrom opened its first store. 

Back when Trunk Club was still opened, I received a 1901 black pullover sweater.

It’s lightweight and perfect for business casual situations.

I don’t think I knew at the time that this was a Nordstrom-created brand.

However, when I search Nordstrom now for 1901 clothing, I can’t find the brand anymore. 

BP.

The BP. brand at Nordstrom actually has three iterations.

One, there is just BP.
Two, there is BP + Wildfang.

And, three, there is BP Be Proud.

I found these in the Young Adult section.

However, overall you’ll find “regular” BP. brand the most.

Within the women’s department, BP. makes:

• Accessories
• Clothing
• Jewelry
• Shoes

Over in the men’s department, BP. offers:

• Clothing
• Shoes

Here is how Nordstrom describes the BP. house brand:

“BP. is a playground for self-expression through personal style. The latest in easy basics, trending statements, accessories, home decor—pieces to mix right in and wear right now.”

Caslon

When I worked with a Nordstrom personal shopper a few months ago, I’d identified Caslon as one of my favorite Nordstrom brands.

In my closet I have a variety of Caslon tops and sweaters.

From searching the Nordstrom website, it appears that Caslon is exclusive to women’s clothing and accessories.

I did not find any Caslon clothing for men.

Finally, I was unable to figure out when exactly Nordstrom introduced the Caslon brand.

Chelsea 28

I found a press release announcing that Nordstrom has partnered with designer Olivia Palermo in 2016 to create the Chelsea28 brand specifically for the store.

These days, there are only a couple dozen Chelsea28 items on the store website.

They are primarily feminine silhouettes, in dresses and jumpsuits.

Halogen

Halogen is another brand I’d identified for the Nordstrom personal shopper that I liked to wear.

I discovered it’s been around since 2000.

Halogen clothing is an additional Nordstrom private label designed for the female shopper.

Nordstrom, Nordstrom Signature and Nordstrom Rack

There are three eponymous Nordstrom brands.

They are Nordstrom, Nordstrom Signature and Nordstrom Rack.

Not surprisingly, the latter is sold exclusively at Nordstrom Rack stores.

The Nordstrom Signature line is a bit more upscale than the “regular” Nordstrom brand.

According to Nordstrom, you can find luxury essentials under the Nordstrom Signature brand for men, women and home.

On the other hand, the Nordstrom-named private label offers timeless, classic pieces for men, women and children.

You can often find the “regular” Nordstrom brand clothing for sale at Nordstrom Rack stores after they’ve been marked down.

Finally, beyond the “Nordstrom Rack” brand, there aren’t any brands that the Rack sells that Nordstrom doesn’t. In other words — and I pulled this detail directly from the Nordstrom Rack website — “90% of the brands offered at Rack are the very same brands you’ll find at Nordstrom.”

Open Edit

Here is how Nordstrom describes Open Edit, this Nordstrom Made brand:

“Explore our Nordstrom Made collection of wardrobe essentials and statement pieces in sizes XS-3X.”

At Nordstrom, you’ll find Open Edit clothing and accessories (including shoes and jewelry) for women, children and men.

Treasure and Bond

Treasure and Bond is Nordstrom’s philanthropic private label brand.

That is, 2.5% of net sales of this brand are sent to good causes supporting at-risk youth.

According to Nordstrom, since 2011, purchases of Treasure + Bond items have raised more than $6 million for youth in need.

Not surprisingly, Treasure and Bond clothing for men and women have a more youthful vibe.

Also, there are Treasure and Bond clothing and accessories for kids at Nordstrom.

Tucker + Tate

Tucker + Tate is Nordstrom’s exclusive brand for babies and kids.

It includes clothing, accessories (i.e. socks and hats) and shoes for boys and girls.

Also, the brand stocks gender neutral items.

Wit + Wisdom

As I mentioned earlier, technically Wit + Wisdom is not a Nordstrom private label brand, per se.

However, Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack are the only places where you can buy Wit + Wisdom clothing.

I only own Wit + Wisdom bottoms.

In fact, they make my favorite white jeans.

However, the brand also makes tops.

Finally, the brand is size inclusive, with sizes up to 3X or 22W in some styles.

Zella

Zella and Zella girl are Nordstrom athletic brands.

Aka this is the Nordstrom private label of workout clothing or athleisure wear for everyday.

My daughter Annie loves everything about Zella.

In fact, it’s her favorite workout attire.

Other brands and companies that Nordstrom owns

This was a new one for me — and I’m so glad a reader asked. They wanted to know what other brands and companies Nordstrom owns.

At first I was annoyed, because haven’t I covered enough here? But then I got over myself, did my homework and discovered I had missed a few things.

This was the biggest one:

“In 2021, Nordstrom partnered with ASOS to announce our acquisition of a minority interest in the Topshop, Topman, Miss Selfridge and HIIT brands.”

Nordstrom brands and extended sizing

In 2018 Nordstrom announced it was bringing extended sizing to 30 or so brands it sells.

This includes many of the in-store, private-label brands I’ve already mentioned in this article.

For example, Nordstrom private-label brands Halogen, Zella and Nordstrom Signature now come in sizes XXS-XXL and 0-18.

Also, the store has made the effort to showcase real-life looking mannequins side by side with traditional mannequins, as shown below.
