Peloton Bike Recall

On May 11, 2023, I learned that there is a Peloton bike recall. This affects OG or original Peloton bikes only.

At first I was worried about the bike we’ve been riding since 2016. Then I worried there was going to be a problem with the Bike Plus we purchased in 2021.

However, I learned that much older bikes are not part of this Peloton recall. Neither are Bike Plus models.

Is your Peloton bike part of the recall

Peloton says that they have contacted all affected owners for Peloton original bikes that this recall affects.

They recommend that, if you received your bike during the timeframe explained above (January 2018 to May 2023), then you should check your emails from Peloton with details of how to order a replacement seat post.

FYI, in the past few days, I’ve received two emails from Peloton, which, frankly, I’ve ignored. One was about accepting the new terms of service. The other is about Peloton privacy preferences.

Maybe you’ve received them, too. However, if you see something from Peloton with a mention of a recall, make sure you open it.

What if your bike is recalled

If you discover that your OG Peloton bike is part of this recall, Peloton says that you should stop riding it immediately.

Then, you should contact Peloton about getting a free replacement for the seat stem.

Peloton says that they’ll send a free replacement seat post that you’ll be able to replace at home without the need for a service call.

You are eligible to receive one seat post replacement only during this bike recall. (I’m not sure why people who try to get more than one anyway.)

You may recall that Peloton recalled its Tread plus in the past. When that happened, I updated my article about kids using the Peloton.

Can you return the bike outright

If you are part of the class that received their bike in the past 30 days, then you might be able to take advantage of the Peloton return policy.

Here is what Peloton says about new bike owners, affected by the recall, who may want to return their bike instead of getting a new seat post:

“As our standard return policy states, you are eligible to request a return of your Peloton original Bike if you are within 30 days of your delivery date, subject to approval. If you are participating in a 30-day Home Trial and are within that trial period you are also eligible to request a return.”
