11 Unique Places to Practice Yoga in the U.S.
I love practicing yoga and I love it even more when I can practice someplace unique. While I’ve been lucky enough to take yoga classes at the Peloton Studios New York, I’m talking about where you can do yoga at a museum, cultural center, aquarium, science center, library, public park or more.
In time for International Day of Yoga on June 21, here are 11 places in the United States you can take a yoga class in a unique space. Note: Most places ask that you bring your own mat.
Speed Museum, Louisville, Kentucky

At the Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Kentucky, on the second Sunday of every month, you can participate in classes that are part of what they call Movement in the Museum. In addition to yoga, you can also take mat pilates and tai chi classes.

Saint Louis Science Center
Before each Yoga Under the Stars class at the Saint Louis Science Center in Missouri, held regularly in the center’s planetarium, you get a 15-minute guided Star Show that explores the current night sky. Then, the lights stay low but the stars stay bright overhead for a 60-minute gentle, beginner yoga flow.

Bryant Park, New York City
Bryant Park’s al fresco wellness series returns for its 21st year of free classes with renowned Peloton yoga instructors, Kirra Michel and Kristin McGee. Yogis of all levels of experience are encouraged to join the classes occurring twice a week starting May 29: Tuesday mornings on the Upper Terrace at 10am and Wednesday evenings on the Lawn at 6pm (5:30pm start during September) through September 25. All classes are behind the famed New York Public Library Main Branch at 42nd Street, between 5th and 6th avenues.

Wonders of Wildlife National Museum + Aquarium, Springfield, Missouri
SEArenity Yoga is held on the first and third Thursday of every month at the Wonders of Wildlife National Museum + Aquarium in Springfield, Missouri. It occurs inside the aquarium, with aquatic life in the background.

Magic Gardens, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
At the outdoor art installation called Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, visitors find the space to be so inspiring yet meditative that, during warm weather months, you can take yoga classes here, among mixed-media mosaic museum and sculpture garden.

At the Hilliard Art Museum in Lafayette, Louisiana, Yoga in the Galleries happens every second Saturday of the month at 11:00 a.m.

Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, Akron, Ohio
On the last Sunday morning of each summer month — June 30, July 28 and August 25, 2024 — you can join a yoga class on the West Terrace of the Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens in Akron, Ohio. It’s an all-levels vinyasa flow.

From time to time, certain branches of the Boston Public Library hold yoga classes, in some of the prettiest and most historical spaces. One of the most iconic spots is at the Central Library in Copley Square. Classes are held in our McKim Exhibition Room.

Mint Museum Uptown, Charlotte, North Carolina
On Tuesdays at the Mint Museum Uptown in Charlotte, North Carolina, you can participate in a one-hour yoga class with Dancing Lotus Yoga + Arts. Classes are from 5:15-6:15 PM.
