Where to Get Teacher Discounts

The first time I ever heard about teacher discounts was when my husband was early in his career.

At that time we were buying our first Apple computer and learned that there were educator discounts on Macs for teachers.

It’s not a huge discount, mind you, but every dollar counts, right?

Anyway, since that time many more companies have started offering discounts to those that work in education.

While they may call them teacher discounts, the truth is if you work at a school and have the ID to prove it, you’ll likely qualify for this discount.

Really, it should be called an educator discount.

Because there are lots of people who work in education who may not be teachers, per se.

Also, many of these same companies offer student discounts, which I cover in this article about how to save money as a college student.

But I digress.

The reason for this article?

I figured my readers who are teachers or work in the education field would want to know brands and businesses that reward them for their dedication with a discount.

How to get teacher discounts

Many of the businesses offering discounts for teachers offer them in person, when you shop in store, as well as when you shop online.

For example, if you visit a clothing store with an educator discount, you likely just have to show your work ID that shows the school district, college or university where you work.

When taking advantage of these offers online, you’ll probably have to go through a third-party site to verify your employment.

For example, some online stores use a third-party site called SheerID.

They approve your status working in education and then issue a discount code you can use when shopping online at a participating retailer.

You can use that promo code only once.

Where you can get teacher and educator discounts

Here is my list of retailers, businesses and brands that participate in these kinds of discounts.

First, there is a bulleted list of businesses.

After that, you’ll find expanded information about each of these discount programs.

Keep in mind that this information was accurate at the time I wrote this article.

Finally, overall I’ve found that footwear and shoe brands are the ones that are most generous with teacher discounts.

Adidas

There is a section on the Adidas.com website called “teacher shoes.”

They are comfortable everyday sneakers or tennis shoes, as some call them.

Plus, they include the forever cool and chic Stan Smith shoes.

If you buy a pair–and confirm your educator status–Adidas will give you 30% off.

Asics

The Asics teachers discount program allows educators (verified teachers, faculty or staff at a K-12 school or university in the United States) 20% off on up to five (5) full-price items in a single online checkout.

Like other retailers Asics uses SheerId to confirm your eligibility.

Also, you can use this discount only twice every 30 days on the Asics.com website.

Finally, this is not a discount for shopping in person.

Apple

I mentioned earlier how my husband used the Apple Education Discount to save money on a computer.

Well, our daughters used their .edu emails to get educator discounts, too–they’re both instructors in graduate school.

Also eligible for the Apple Education Discount:

  • Current college students
  • Newly accepted college students
  • Parents of college students
  • Education faculty and staff
  • Homeschool teachers

AT&T

K-12 teachers and college professors may qualify for money off a mobile plan.

Check with your local AT&T store.

Blue Apron

We’ve loved using meal kit Blue Apron. And I’ve got great news for educators: there is a special Blue Apron discount for you. You get $180 off your first order plus free shipping.

Need to give a gift? Blue Apron has gift cards, too.

Chipotle

I couldn’t find a teacher discount at Chipotle.

However, last year, Chipotle gave away $100,000 in free school supplies to help teachers stock their classroom.

This was the closest I could come to finding restaurants with teacher discounts.

Clarks Shoes

Teachers can get a discount at Clarks Shoes after confirming their eligibility via ID.me.

However, I couldn’t figure out how much of a discount you get.

Crocs educator discount

Crocs gives teachers 15% off full-priced footwear.

Hertz

What is the teacher discount on car rentals at Hertz? It’s 25% off.

Hotels.com

Hotels.com uses the company ID.me to verify educators and offer them money off a travel booking.

J. Crew

J. Crew has a teacher and student discount.

This discount is valid at J. Crew stores in the United States as well as the United Kingdom, plus J. Crew Factory Outlet stores.

It appears the J. Crew store discount is 20% off.

On the other hand, you would get 15% off at the J. Crew outlet store.

JOANN Teacher Discount

The JOANN teacher discount is 15% off everyday.

Plus, from time to time throughout the year, JOANN Store will hold Teacher Appreciation Days with additional savings for educators.

Levis

Not only does Levis recycle its denim but also it has a discount for teachers.

L.L. Bean

Teachers, as well as college students, get a 10% discount.

You’ll need to upload school-issued documentation to verify your eligibility for this markdown.

Also, this offer applies to purchases made online as well at an L.L. Bean retail.

However, outlet stores are excluded.

This article explains L.L. Bean’s two-a-day discounts.

Madewell

Madewell has a 15% discount for both teachers and students.

Microsoft

This is what the Microsoft Education page says:

“K-12 and higher education students, parents, and faculty are eligible year-round for an education discount up to 10% off select products, including Surface devices.”

New Balance

New Balances gives a 25% discount to teachers.

Nike discount

Unfortunately, Nike does not have a teacher discount.

However, it does offer money off for students who verify their status via SheerID.

It is a 10% discount to eligible high school (age 16 or older), college and university students in the United States.

Finally, the Nike discount is good to use for online or Nike app purchases only for two weeks from when it is issued.

It does not work in physical stores.

NOBULL

NOBULL shoes, great footwear for weightlifting, offers an education discount.

It includes both educators and students, including:

  • Teacher: Classroom Teacher, Principal, Assistant Principal, Administrator
  • Student: College Students, University Students, Community College Students, Junior College Students, Technical, and Vocational College Students

Peloton teacher discount

There appears to be two different Peloton discounts for educators.

One, teachers and professors get special pricing on the Peloton app–$9.99 a month vs. $12.99.

Two, educators can save on the accessories package when buying Peloton hardware.

That is, this discount is up to $200 USD off accessories or accessory packages with the purchase of a Peloton Bike, Bike+ or Tread.

Quince

In addition to offering sustainable workout clothing, Quince also offers discounts for educators. You can get 10% off on the Quince website.

Radisson Hotels

At one time Radisson Hotels offered a 10% discount to teachers, plus a free upgrade when checking in.

However, I recently learned that Choice Hotels has taken over Radisson.

Therefore, I need to double check if this offer is still valid.

Rothy’s Shoes

Here’s what the Rothy’s Shoes website says about its discount program, which includes teachers:

“At Rothy’s, our community is everything. It’s full of people who work in pursuit of a better, healthier future. That’s why we’re proud to offer a 20% discount* to teachers, first responders, medical professionals, military and students.”

Rothys.com

SeaWorld

Through September 7, 2023, SeaWorld is offering a SeaWorld teacher pass.

According to the SeaWorld website:

“SeaWorld® Orlando is proud to offer a complimentary SeaWorld Florida Teacher Card to all active and certified K-12 Florida grade school teachers.

The card provides Florida teachers with unlimited admission to SeaWorld Orlando.”

SeaWorld

Target Teacher Discount

Last year, Target offered educators money off during the back-to-school shopping season.

Plus, this was all done through the Target app.

No word yet on if Target will be bringing this program back for this year.

Ugg

Ugg calls its discount the Community Heroes discount.

It includes educators as well as first responders, military members and medical professionals.

Final thoughts on teacher discounts

Many teachers and educators are members of NEA, National Education Association.

Oftentimes, your NEA card can get you a teacher discount that otherwise wouldn’t be available to educators.

Also, every year, in early May, is Teacher Appreciation Week along with Teacher Appreciation Day.

It’s entirely possible that you’ll see additional discounts pop up during this week that aren’t available at the rest of the year.

Also, here are ideas for teacher appreciation gifts.

Finally, here are tips on planning a career day in your classroom.
