How to Get a Healthcare Worker Discount

During the past few years, it’s been common for stores and businesses to offer a healthcare worker discount.

This was meant for doctors, nurses, EMTS and other workers on the front line of healthcare.

The idea was to give folks a break on everything from fitness subscriptions to footwear.

It was our collective thank you for getting us through 2020 and beyond.

However, I’ve since discovered that many brands have offered discounts to those working in healthcare even before then.

And some continue today.

I figured readers who worked in this field would appreciate knowing about the brands and businesses that reward them with a discount.

Therefore, I decided to write this roundup.

How to get a healthcare worker discount

Many of the businesses I’ve tracked down offer this discount in person as well as online.

In the former scenario, you likely just have to show your work ID to prove you work at a doctor’s office, in a hospital, on an ambulance or something similar.

In the latter scenario, you’ll probably have to go through a third-party site to verify your employment in the healthcare field.

For example, some online stores use a third-party site called SheerID.

What is SheerID?

Well, it started out as a business that allowed students to get discounts at stores. 

That is, it would verify the identity of someone by using that person’s name and birthdate.

Then, SheerID cross references it against certain databases, such as a college or university’s registration.

It’s since expanded into other employment areas, such as healthcare. It’s free for you to use.

Finally, when SheerID approves your status as a healthcare worker, then it generates the appropriate discount code.

You can use that promo code only once.

Where you can get a healthcare worker discount

Now you understand how to get that discount as someone working in healthcare, here is a list of stores, businesses and brands that participate in these kinds of discounts.

Keep in mind that this information was accurate at the time I wrote this article.

However, if something changes, I’ll update this information as soon as I learn about it.

Similarly, if you see a mistake in my list or notice I’m missing something, please let me know.

Now onto the list of brands, businesses and more that give a discount to healthcare workers.

As I mentioned at the top of this article, this list includes footwear, fitness providers and food companies, among others.

There are even hotels and other travel companies in this list, too.

Adidas

There are three ways healthcare workers can get a discount on Adidas items. One, by shopping online at Adidas.com.

Two, they can shop in person at an Adidas store. And, three, they can get a discount at an Adidas factory outlet store.

Finally, using SheerId, there are a few categories that qualify as a healthcare worker:

  • First responder
  • Nurse
  • Medical
  • Hospital employee

Asics

The Asics discount program for medical professionals is quite generous. You can get 40% up to five (5) full-price items in a single checkout.

Like other retailers Asics uses SheerId to confirm your eligibility. Also, you can use this discount only twice every 30 days.

Finally, this is not a discount for shopping in person. In fact, you can only use it on Asics.com.

Blue Apron

We’ve loved using meal kit Blue Apron. And I’ve got great news for educators: there is a special Blue Apron discount for you. You get $180 off your first order plus free shipping.

Chipotle

While Chipotle doesn’t have a healthcare discount, per se, once a year they do give free food and discounts on food to nurses during National Nurses Week. That’s the first full week of May.

Choice Hotels

According to this Choice Hotels’ page, doctors, nurses and paramedics are all eligible for a discount at Choice Hotel properties.

Clarks Shoes

It appears that EMTs are the only healthcare workers that qualify for a discount at Clark Shoes.

Crocs healthcare worker discount

Crocs gives medical professionals 15% off full-priced footwear. Also, here is a link to the Crocs at Work line. It has all kinds of clogs for women and men.

Dollar Car Rental

Only doctors and medical students, with an American Medical Association membership, get a discount at Dollar Car Rentals. It’s 7% off.

General Motors

GM’s healthcare discount (which also includes other first responders) goes through 2024. Car discounts are as high as $1,000 off a new Cadillac.

Hilton

Hilton Hotels have partnered with Aya Healthcare to give qualified medical employees discounts at certain Hilton properties.

JOANN Stores

The JOANN health professional discount is 15% off.

Levis

Not only does Levis recycle its denim but also it has a discount for medical professionals. Use this link on the Levis website to learn more about the healthcare worker discount.

L.L. Bean

Medical professionals get 10% off at L.L. Bean, after they verify their status. Note: you must be licensed in your respective field to qualify for the discount.

Lululemon

This Lululemon healthcare worker discount is lumped in with a first responder discount. That is, if you work in the following fields–and can verify your employment via SheerID–you’ll get 15% off at Lululemon stores:

  • EMTs
  • medical doctors
  • licensed nurses

Note: This Lululemon discount is good in store as well as online. Also, Lululemon will hem your leggings for free.

Madewell

Madewell gives first responders and medical personnel 15% off.

Marriott healthcare discount

From time to time, Marriott Bonvoy has offered discounts to frontline and healthcare workers. Check this Marriott Bonvoy special offers link for the latest deals.

New Balance

New Balances gives a 25% discount to hospital employers, medical employees, nurses and first responders.

Nike discount

Nike calls its program a medical professional discount. It uses SheerID to verify your status.

You’ll get a 10% off promo or coupon code to shop online; it expires after two weeks.

Finally, the Nike discount is good to use for online or Nike app purchases only. It does not work in physical stores.

NOBULL

NOBULL shoes, great footwear for weightlifting, has an extensive discount for those working in the health fields.

Here’s a list of who qualifies:

  • Medical Professional: MD, DO, NP, PA, DDS
  • Nurse: ARNP, RN, PN/LPN, APRN, CRNA, CNS, Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Nurse Midwife and Certified Nurse Practitioner
  • Hospital Employee
  • First Responder: EMT, Paramedic

Patagonia

It appears that Patagonia offers a discount one day a year–on First Responders Day, which is October 28th. On that day those working in the field get 10% off.

Peloton

The Peloton membership discount for the medical community is for the app only. You cannot get any kind of discount on an all-access membership, which you use with Peloton hardware (Bike, Bike Plus, Tread and Row).

Quince

In addition to offering sustainable workout clothing, Quince also offers discounts for first responders. You can get 10% off on the Quince website.

Rothy’s Shoes

Here’s what the Rothy’s Shoes website says about its discount program, which includes healthcare workers:

“At Rothy’s, our community is everything. It’s full of people who work in pursuit of a better, healthier future. That’s why we’re proud to offer a 20% discount* to teachers, first responders, medical professionals, military and students.”

T-Mobile

Not only does T-Mobile offer discounts for seniors, aged 55+, but also they have a first responder discount. That is, First Responders get 50% off family lines with the Magenta unlimited plan.

Theragun from Therabody

First responders and medical professionals get 20% off any regularly priced Theragun device.

Thrifty Car Rental

Thrifty Car Rental provides an exclusive discount to medical doctors and medical students. However, I was unable to confirm how much of a discount you get.

Ugg

Ugg calls its healthcare discount the Community Heroes discount. It includes educators, first responders, military members and, of course, medical professionals.

Under Armour

Under Armour offers 20% off for medical professionals. This includes first responders, healthcare workers, doctors, nurses and emergency medical technicians aka EMTs.

Verizon Wireless

Nurses can save up to $25 a line with the Verizon healthcare worker discount.

Brands that no longer offer healthcare worker discounts

There are a few companies that used to offer this kind of discount. However, that all expired at the end of 2022.

Here are the brands I found that once offered a healthcare worker discount program but no longer do. Sorry!

Or, common Google searches will lead you to believe that they do. However, they don’t.
