Start of Summer Sales: Best Items to Shop for in June

Even though summer doesn’t officially start until the third week of June, this month is the unofficial start of the summer sales season. In fact, it’s a popular time to shop for dads and grads.

It’s obvious that Father’s Day is a big shopping holiday for June. So you can expect to find good prices on items that dads are likely to want.

For example, one of the best things to buy in June is tools. Retailers like Home Depot and Lowe’s will often lower their prices on tools in the hopes of snagging some extra Father’s Day sales.

However, tools aren’t the only deals you can expect to find as the summer sales season kicks off. Some other categories to keep an eye on include:

• swimwear
• electronics
• Father’s Day gifts
• lingerie
• dairy products

Now, onto my suggestions for what you should think about buying or stocking up on in June.

Swimwear sales for summer

Retailers typically discount swimsuits just before the weather heats up. Then, they’ll do the same throughout the summer as they need to free up space for back to school shopping. Finally, you’ll find the best markdowns on swimwear (if there is any left) when the kids go back to school.

For example, last October I had a Caribbean vacation planned. So I spent most of September shopping for new bathing suits, including plus size tankinis with built-in bras.

While the pickings were, in fact, slim, the prices were unbelievable. I just looked and I saw similarly great prices on bathing suits at Lands’ End and Target.

Same thing with bathing suits on clearance at Macy’s.

Sales on electronics

Electronics falls in the category of presents for those aforementioned dads and grades. So, look for deals on laptops, headphones and the like.

Also, my daughter is a big gamer and tells me that there are big releases coming this month. So, she expects to see good prices on things like Playstation consoles or Nintendo Switch handheld devices.

Father’s Day gifts

If your dad is handy around the house, power tools make a great Father’s Day gift. And now is definitely the time to buy them–you can expect to see sales and deals on tools from major retailers like The Home Depot and Lowe’s.

Also, don’t forget to check out salvage and liquidation stores like Ollie’s and Mardens. I’m on the Mardens mailing list after writing a story about them as a Target salvage store.

Recently, they emailed to say that they have an overflowing inventory of Fiskars gardening tools. Fiskars is one of those brands with a lifetime warranty. You’d better believe that I’m going to hit up my local Mardens so I can take advantage of these great prices on Fiskars products.

Summer sales on lingerie and undergarments

There are two reasons you might find deals on lingerie in June. One, June is wedding month and people could be shopping for undergarments to wear at their wedding or on their honeymoon.

And, two, the Victoria’s Secret Semi-Annual Sale. Twice a year Victoria’s Secret slashes prices and many other retailers come along for this summer sale.

It’s kind of like when Amazon Prime Day happens in July and suddenly every other online retailer is offering markedowns, too.

Dairy products

Did you know that June is National Dairy Month? Grocery stores love these kinds of themed monthly “holidays” as a way to promote certain items in the store. So, for June, look for BOGO deals on dairy products or related products, such as “milks” that do not come from cows.

For example, I just used National Dairy Month deals to stock up on my favorite Greek yogurt when I placed my most recent Walmart pickup order.

Summer sales coming in July

Finally, July is always filled with additional summer sales. During July, you can expect the following:

• Ulta Jumbo Sale aka the Hair Liter Sale
